Drama and role-play
Drama and role-play can help to develop confidence, speaking and listening skills, as well as reading and writing skills, so is an important part of the formal curriculum. Students use puppets, dress-up and create stories. Also, it is an assessed part of the OCR exam and an important tool for learning 'Life Skills' in Sixth Form, where phone calls, job interviews, conversations in shops are role-played. In preparation for the OCR exam, students hot-seat characters from texts they have studied to help them gain a deeper level of understanding in relation to a character's motivation. It is also a good opportunity to practise some question writing!
